A cancer diagnosis can affect everyone in your family, including your children. Dr. Rebecca Palacios, from New Mexico State University (NMSU) is conducting a study to learn about the needs of Hispanic mothers diagnosed with cancer. The findings from this study will help develop a program to assist Hispanic mothers diagnosed with cancer and their children. Please see the enclosed flyer that describes the study in detail.

We would like to invite you or someone you know to participate in this study if you meet all three of the following requirements:
• You are a Hispanic woman
• You are mother of a child 5-13 years of age
• Have been diagnosed with cancer in the past 2 years

All participants in the study will complete a brief survey and participate in a focus group (or a telephone interview). During the focus group (or phone interview), we will ask you questions about the specific needs you had during your cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery. We will also ask questions regarding your and your children’s experience with cancer. The study will take approximately 1.5 hours. The study will be conducted at convenient locations for our study participants in Las Cruces, NM and El Paso, TX.

Participation in this study is voluntary. All responses will be kept private. Your participation is very important to us, and we need your help. All participants will receive a $25 gift card. Focus group participants will also receive a free meal during the focus group.

If you would like to participate and/or have any questions about the study, please contact Karoline Sondgeroth, at 575-646-5065 or at ksondg@nmsu.edu. You may also contact Dr. Rebecca Palacios at 575-646-4309 or by email at rpalacio@nmsu.edu. They can answer any questions you may have regarding this study. If you do not qualify for this study but know a woman who does, please share this information with her.
